how it works
During the first week of classes, make plans to attend “Meet the Greeks” to meet representatives from each sorority before recruitment begins, attend the “Sorority Recruitment Info Session” to get the scoop on how recruitment works, and visit the Panhellenic Council table at the Activities Fair to get more information about sorority life. These optional events are a great way to start meeting sorority women and register for formal recruitment. Formal recruitment is the process in which sororities accept new members. This period begins during the second week of classes. The first three events are called Rotationals, in which potential new members meet the sisters of each sorority and learn more about what each individual chapter has to offer. Following the Rotationals, sororities invite potential members to visit their respective chapter houses and to get to know the sisters a little bit better. At this Invitational event, potential members may visit up to three sororities. Following the Invitational event is Preference, the last night of recruitment. While the other recruitment events are more casual in nature, Preference is a special, more formal event in which potential members decide which sorority they wish to join, and sororities choose the potential members they wish to invite to membership (give them a 'bid'). Potential members may attend Preference at up to two sororities. Immediately following Preference, bids are distributed to potential members for signing. A bid is an official agreement to become a new member of a specific sorority at RPI. After bids are signed, the new members are brought to the sororities' chapter houses to greet their new sisters!
See the recruitment calendar for the dates and times of these events.
As you can see, there are many opportunities to spend time with the RPI sororities during recruitment - it's highly recommended that you attend as many events as you can, to learn as much as possible about sorority life before joining the Greek community. The first step to participating in formal recruitment is a quick, easy registration process that is open to all interested women. Once you sign up for recruitment, you will be matched with a Recruitment Counselor, a sorority member who has chosen to disaffiliate herself from her sorority during formal recruitment in order to provide unbiased support to potential members.
